INSTALLATION / SILKSCREEN / MOVING IMAGE / SOUND
The image is everything.
We need it – or so it seems.
Image display apparatuses have evolved throughout the centuries: from the camera obscura to the Kaiserpanorama to Instagram. And while the tools to display images are changing, our need to consume them remains a constant. Through the act of silk-screening and physically creating similar images, the artist becomes the apparatus, potentially producing unlimited displays of entertainment. As they are handmade, every image is unique – but will the viewers remember the subtle differences?
Does it matter what we are looking at?
These devices are built for entertainment. This type of image never comes alone, and our exposure to them never lasts too long. An individual image within a viewing session will hardly be remembered. However, the overall experience keeps people coming back—the desire to escape, forget reality, and observe anonymously. The device becomes omnipresent in our lives: seducing and luring us into a endless void.
Why do we need the image? And does the image need us?
